What does emo mean? Why do people call themselves Emo Girls/Boys?

Emo is short for emotional.there really just about woe is me,I hate the world,no conformity and things like that.they dress in black and dark blue and purple,wear make up and weird hair colors.their basically trying to hard to be different,and in the end their the real posers.
