Sims 3 world adventure: my sim has doubled up?

My sim was on holiday in France and got stuck between two traps and there was nothing I could do so I sent him home using his phone. When it went back to Bridgeport there are now two of that sim. The one who came back from traveling has all the lifetime happiness and relics/money I got on that trip, the other one is at home and has all the stuff from before the trip. Anyone else had this? Or have any idea what I can do to rescue it besides moving one of them out?
